She makes figurative conceptual paintings where some aspects go to abstraction. According to her, both the emotion and the use of color are very important. She doesn't want to portray heavy subjects, more endearment, a feeling or surprise, because it also has to be accessible. She prefers the beauty of Japan, the vulnerable, serene and mysterious appeals to her. She applies this in her paintings and places the Japanese figures exactly in such a way as to arouse an emotion. Japan has beautiful nature, but the Netherlands as well. Ermien lives near the forest and that is why she also wants to capture it on canvas and ink paintings on handmade paper, so that a link is created to Japan. Ermien has followed a creative education, took extra painting lessons and of course got the creativity innate. She has signed up for the Artist Talks, where you can see and hear more about her work.
