Herman Kuypers (Velden, 1965) is

often asked: "Why this fascination for 
chairs?" All chairs have a logical and 
well thought-out shape and 
construction. To draw a chair, 
knowledge of perspective is 
indispensable. Representing space 
on a flat surface has fascinated me 
since childhood. The better you 
master it, the more you can play 
with it. Can the space also come 
out of the paper? Playing with 
assumptions we all have, our eyes
not in the least! Chairs have a character 
that makes them very suitable for 
contemplation about people. 
Everyone has their favorite copy, 
right? All my works have a title that 
often surprises viewers and elicits 
a smile.
