In her sculptures Carolien uses themes such as image, identity, beauty standards and transience. Driven by the imposed beauty standards to look perfect, these are followed almost obsessively. In order to meet all these standards, a lot about us has to be changed. In her quest to live up to the image of this time, Carolien discovered that all those interventions will never be enough; image is time bound and it is show. By working with untreated wool, she shows the purity of every person on the one hand, and the animal, cuddly, tactile on the other.
