Press release

The second edition of the FIRST ART FAIR, the first art fair of the year, takes place from Wednesday 16 to Sunday 20 January 2018 in the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. The FIRST ART FAIR is a sparkling New Year’s Fair for contemporary art, with a wide selection of high-level art.

On this five-day event, painting and sculpture, photography and jewelery are on sale from hundreds of renowned and young artists, spread over the stands of 35 selected galleries from all over the country.

The fair offers a broad spectrum of styles, from abstract to figurative. The FIRST ART FAIR focuses on an audience that chooses art that suits its own personality. Lovers of inspiring and aesthetic art, in which passion and craftsmanship play an important role.

FIRST NATIONS- and MAORI art on the Panorama Deck
Artwise is an organization that aims to make the contemporary art of the original inhabitants of Canada (the First Nations) and New Zealand (Maori) known in Europe and thus contribute to the preservation of these special cultures. The art of these peoples is transferred to pupils in a traditional way, with each artist making his own mark on an age-old art tradition that revolves around legends, symbols and magic.

Monumental work by Melanie Visser
Five monumental works by Melanie Visser will be exhibited at the FIRST ART FAIR. She refers to her work as ‘philosophical realism’, a term that indicates that the search for the Truth and the Mystery of Being inspires her work. The monumental graphite drawings, burned in transparent polystyrene, have a connection with the etchings of the famous 17th century etcher Hercules Seghers. During the opening on Wednesday, January 16, Melanie organizes a presentation together with her husband Ad Visser.

Artist Talks
The art lover who wants to know more about the background of the artworks he sees at the First Art Fair, can attend the Artist Talks on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 January. The program is published on the website under activities.
